Career Tips from Toyosi
There`s no need to rush, pace yourself, savour each moment like a juicy chicken bone
Hi Undergrad Gang!
It`s been simply amazing hanging out with you this week!
I strongly believe you are going to surpass your own wildest imaginations because even I steady surprise myself daily.
As I say farewell, here are some tips that have helped me enjoy the process of career development, I really hope they are of some use to you.
While I was a child, I thought I was going to be a musician, but dears I am a terrible singer but I probably showed skills then with my songwriting and all, amongst many other plans to be one thing or the other. The only thing I was sure of was that I am an Art student even if I loved Mathematics and passed science courses. Law just happened, to be honest, and I am still finding my way through it. I had to find interest in the degree because that’s what the moment served me. Remember I am a support system; we aim to thrive anywhere. I have an interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution specifically, but generally anything corporate service. I like the idea of waking up to a set-out structure (the irony of my study life and work life, but God is good). It is stressful but so is Entrepreneurship. Even when things do not particularly go your way, if you cannot change it, channel the present situation in a way you can experience joy in it, that will keep you going.
Celine: Could you please tell us some job titles you have found out about after university that are relevant to your degree and some companies you have recently found out about?
Toyosi: No specifics really, but know that technology is taking charge of a whole lot of things now, so with whatever you are doing or you intend to do, for both entrepreneurs or corporate career individuals, have it at the back of your mind to envisage its relevancy in the long run. Google is our friend; you can check for opportunities where there are spaces available for you to channel your input.
Celine: What is one thing you wish you did in university that would have prepared you for life after university?
Toyosi: To be honest, I recently agreed to myself that I graduated too early and I understand now why some schools, most schools in other climes request their undergraduates to be 18 first. That is not to say at all that we youngins cannot succeed, many of us are already doing that even before leaving the University but there is a mental strain on having to grow up and making grown-up decisions that early. I will say I should have dared myself more and earlier enough in engaging in more activities in school and outside school than I did. There are a lot of things that may not be in our control, which may be a disadvantage to us but the world out there really does not care, sp do what you can, do what you should, do not limit yourself! don`t compare yourself with anyone, things are not what they always look like, network, never stop learning, make positive decisions and most importantly, do not do anything without Abba, that’s the cheat code.
I am rooting you!
Sincerely,
Toyosi
That's right! The cheat code is Abba and Abba is the cheat code!👌💯 The Greatest Advantage
